In addition to my work as a visual artist, I went through a broad social development. Working in psychiatry, elementary school teacher and eventually almost 20 years director of a large Public Primary School in The Hague. I received most of my art training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague.
I feel strongly inspired by Johannes Itten, who made a great contribution to the knowledge of color theory. The artists who, following the Bouwhaus period, converted this knowledge into art are good examples for me. Some names: Mondrian, Rietveld, Appel. My work is a continuation of the clear view of color and form.
Important topics from current events often form the basis for thematic construction. Especially when major divisions arise where, precisely, joining together is of the utmost importance. Themes such as The Golden Age and Dutch landscapes fall into this category. Some themes are more technical in nature. They have more to do with exploring color, shape and structure.
Art should contribute something to the world. Create something that did not exist before. Evoke wonder or raise questions.
My work consists largely of abstract reliefs. Mostly from MDF, Acrylic paint, gold leaf and fabrics.
